Prototype 2 Steelbook

Future Shop in Canada will be offering the exclusive Prototype 2 Steelbook for those who pre-order the game at the retailer. It will come in two sizes, G1 (Xbox 360 and PC) and G2 (PS3). The game is scheduled to come out on April 24, 2012 currently, and the Steelbook will ship with the game at that time. You can also pre-order the game in-stores and pickup the Steelbook along with the game (assuming this release works the same as all the previous releases).

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Special Edition

The Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Steelbook will come with the Canadian and American release of the game’s Special Edition for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 20, 2012. Currently it is assumed that the PS3 version will be G2 sized with the 360 version being G1 which has been the case for previous Capcom Special Edition releases with Steelbooks (i.e. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Dead Rising). The Special Edition will retail for $69.99 and should be available at most major retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, etc.) and comes with the Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City game, SteelBook case with exclusive art, a stylized foil sleeve, Umbrella Security Service patch, Spec Ops Field Unit embroidered patch and eight bonus weapons.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 G2 Steelbook

The Canadian retailer, Future Shop, has announced another exclusive videogame Steelbook. The Final Fantsy XIII-2 Steelbook will be available for those who pre-order the game between December 6th 2011 and January 9th 2012. Word is that this release will be G2 only (this has been confirmed by the moderator, Godwin, on the official Future Shop forums), a welcomed change from the previous G1 only videogame Steelbook releases by Future Shop. A G1 version of the Final Fantasy XIII-2 Steelbook has been announced for European release for those who are interested in G1 sized Steelbooks.

Like the previous Future Shop releases, the Steelbook will be automatically added to your cart as a free bonus when you add the game to your cart. This promotion applies to both the regular and the collector’s edition of the game for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Below are links to the 4 SKUS that qualify for the Steelbook promotion.

As always, you can also pre-order in stores and just pick up the Steelbook when you pick up your pre-order. There are pros and cons to both online orders and in-store orders so I often pre-order using both methods to ensure that I am guaranteed a copy and have a better chance of getting a mint one (most of the time these pre-order bonuses are not sealed so they get scratched up during shipment).

Smurfs Future Shop

The Smurfs Blu-ray Steelbook is currently announced for release in 3 countries: Canada, Italy, and Germany. I will run through a breakdown of where to purchase this Steelbook and how much it would retail for across each of these regions. Right now all three versions appear to feature the same artwork (will need to be 100% verified upon release) and is G2 sized. The only difference seems to be in the mini cardboard overlay on the front cover to display the title (should cover the back too), which is in each country’s respective languages. In terms of which version is more limited, the Italian version will be numbered to an edition of 1500, so if pure collectibility is your goal then that version may be the one for you to get.

The Canadian release will be through Future Shop and will retail for $22.99 on December 2, 2011 when it first releases (prices are usually cheaper at Future Shop during the first week of release). The Steelbook is currently sold out online but you can still pick it up in stores on release day. It is likely that the Steelbook will come back in stock online in the near future.

The Italian release will be through DVD-store.it and will retail for € 23,50. It is coming out on January 4, 2012. As earlier said, this will be a numbered edition out of 1500. Below is the Italian version with the Italian title overlay along with the printed number template (most likely a sticker).

The German release will be through Mediamarkt and perhaps the Saturn retailer as well and will go on sale on December 8, 2011. The price has yet to been confirmed at the moment. Below is an advertisement for the upcoming German release (courtesy of ghostrecon75).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Collection Steelbook

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Collection Steelbook will be a G1 sized Steelbook case available exclusively at Future Shop in Canada for those who pre-order. This currently looks to be the same Steelbook that is available in a couple of European retailers (FR Micromania and IT GameStop), but this has not been confirmed and the inner art might have some variation since the European version has their respective ratings logo on the inside art. There should be 3-discs compartments inside for one to store all three Modern Warfare games (same as the EU version). This Future Shop Steelbook was originally only supposed to be given out to those who attend/line up at the midnight launch events held at various Future Shops across Canada, but it appears Future Shop has made it available through their Website as well starting yesterday. All you need to do is order the regular edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for either the PS3 or Xbox 360 between November 4th and 7th (note: sometimes they will still be available shortly after the stated period of time) and the Steelbook will be automatically placed in your shopping cart; both versions are priced at $59.99 CDN currently.

Please note that the above Steelbook is a render from the Future Shop Website and not the finalized version so the cover may differ slightly in the final release (so the bottom of the back cover of the Steelbook will not look like it is missing).

Update (11/10/2011) : It has been confirmed that this Steelbook is actually different from the EU release. There is artwork on the back that is different and the front cover is actually different too. Unfortunately my order did not ship yesterday with the Steelbook (out-of-stock apparently) so I cannot update with new photos of the actual unit. I shall post any new photos as I can get them.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Steelbook

A Canadian exclusive, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Steelbook will be made available as a pre-order bonus at Future Shop for those who pre-order this Wii videogame online or in-stores. The Steelbook itself will be G1 sized (the same size as a standard Wii / DVD case).

For those ordering online, it appears that the Steelbook bonus only gets added to the shopping cart for the regular edition of the game currently and not the Collector’s Edition (which comes with a golden Wii remote controller). If you pre-order in-stores it might still be better to go in earlier during launch day just to ensure that you will receive the Steelbook as sometimes different Future Shops vary on whether they actually reserve the Steelbook for pre-orders or not. I was told at one particular location that even for those who pre-ordered the game in-stores it may still be first-come, first-served for those on the pre-order list (so whoever pre-ordered and comes early will get it for sure). The price of the regular edition will be $49.99 and $69.99 for the Collector’s Edition. Again, if you pre-order online currently, the Collector’s Edition will not come with a Steelbook, whether pre-ordering in-stores will be different has not been confirmed. I must say this one is a beauty, and even though I no longer own a Wii, I will definitely be picking this Steelbook up. More details are still to come closer to the release date as we get our hands on the final Steelbook when it releases with the game on November 20th.
