Media Markt Steelbook wave

A huge wave of Media Markt exclusive Blu-ray Steelbooks is coming out tomorrow (January 19, 2012)! Below are the titles that has been said to be part of this wave of releases, some are saying there may be even more but that has yet to be confirmed:

Surprisingly enough, the artwork for these releases has not been unveiled yet. I will be updating this news article once the first photos of the releases surface. It is kind of fun to have the artwork unveiled during release day though, since most artwork these days are unveiled at least a week or two ahead of the scheduled release date (in some cases even months ahead).

A Trip to the Moon Blu-ray Steelbook

I recently watched Hugo in theatre so I was instantly drawn to the thread in our official forums on the announcement of A Trip to the Moon Blu-ray Steelbook for the United States by Flicker Alley. This Georges Méliès film will be released as a limited edition Steelbook consisting of one BD and one DVD, and retail for $29.96 USD.  It is currently scheduled to be released on March 27,2012 and can be purchased via this link: http://www.flickeralley.com/fat_trip_01.html
This is an American exclusive but the retailer’s site appears to ship internationally as well, so good news for international collectors.

The Steelbook has been confirmed to be G2 sized and just updated above is the final cover art. We have also just received word that this edition will be limited to 4000.

I am very happy for this release even though I cannot say I am one who particularly appreciates classic cinema (beyond 1950s). Here’s hoping for more unique classic cinema releases such as this in the future as they make for a unique piece in any film / Steelbook enthusiast’s collection.

* Avatar is not happening as the studio via Cameron is not allowing any exclusives or modifications to the standard plan for the still rumored April release. We are actively pushing to a deluxe Steelbook version for later in the year.

None the less, the entire movie was shot in Austin, Texas … although the movie may make you think some was shot in Lebanon, Tennessee.  Infact, the very first scene they show in Lebanon Tennessee was actually 2 streets away from my apartment when they were filming.  I acutally got haircuts next door to the quicky mart they went into   I also tried to get a haircut that day and was mad I couldnt get one … then later I found out what was going on and I had missed it

I remember when i first moved to Austin from Houston seeing that “Potheads” billboard and thinking jeez I knew Austin was more laid back but dammmmn.  Later to find out it was just put up there for the movie, that would be shot like 2 weeks later.  Heh.

This is the amazon.de (German) exclusive release of 10,000 BC … Many may also know that their is indeed a UK version which is pretty easy to come by as well. Both 10,000 BC copies are region free so thats always a plus! I dont care too much for this case but I’ll let you be the judge of that. This release came with a tattoo as well. So why is this such the treasure? Well, its been speculated that it was limited to 2,000 copies but there is a possibility that the number may have been infact 8,000. (As that is the # quoted for minimum SB orders off of SteelBook.com) However I do believe if you pay more you can have less copies produced. In any case, the actual # shall remain a mystery or just hear say although I was kind of thinking about contacting SB.com but that may be a little bit too much personal business information they dont feel to share. :-p On a side note, probably the 2nd most sought after Blu-ray SteelBook is Star Wars: Clone Wars.

If your looking to purchase this Rambo Blu-ray Steelbook then your best bet is a reputable auction site. Even then they are hard to come by and find, good luck. Price tags in the range of 200-500 Euros can be expected as well. Youch!
